6 Month Health Check

Time for a health check
At six months, it is advisable to make an appointment for your pet so we can provide a thorough health-check. We want to make sure your pet is on track with their development and growth, so we will check their weight, ears, heart, teeth and provide a general health assessment.

Heartworm Prevention (Dogs Only)
ProHeart SR-12 Injection is a once-a-year product for the prevention of heartworm disease in dogs. Its sustained-release formula ensures a full 12 months (for adult dogs) protection from a single dose administered by your veterinarian.

When can your puppy receive once a year heartworm prevention? We can administer an injection from the age of 6 months of age. This will be followed by a booster at 15 months of age after which your pet will be required to have a yearly booster for life.

Can your dog change from monthly heartworm treatment to the yearly injection? If your dog is already receiving monthly heartworm protection, you can swap immediately to the once a year injection.

Desexing
Desexing is recommended for all pets. We recommend that your pet is desexed at 6 months of age, but the procedure can be performed at any age. Desexing is a day surgery, with admission between 8:00am – 8:30am and then they are usually right to go home after 4:00pm the same day. Booking are essential.

Pet insurance
If you haven’t already, now’s a good time to consider pet insurance. It can be reassuring to know you’re covered for any health problems your pet might have in the future.
