Microchipping

A microchip, also known as a radio frequency identification device (RFID), is the most effective form of permanent identification for pets. Microchips are approximately the size of a grain of rice. Pet microchipping is an extremely common and safe procedure, and is simply implanted through a needle between the shoulder blades.

Queensland law now requires all dogs and cats to have a microchip implanted by the time they are 12 weeks old.

Microchips are available to be implanted from 6 weeks of age.

How to update your Microchip details

Keeping the details on your pets microchip up to date is extremely important! This can greatly help in the return of your beloved pet should they go missing.

Have you got a new mobile number?….

Have you moved recently?….

Have you recently bought a new puppy or kitten?….

Have you recently sold a pet?….

If you are unsure which company your pets microchip is registered through, you can search this at www.petaddress.com.au. If you don’t know the microchip number, give us a call on 4922 8138 and we can arrange a time for you to bring your pet in for one of our lovely receptionists to scan the number.

Once you know which microchipping company, you can visit their website, register or contract them to update your details.

Please note that not all microchip registration companies are nation wide. You may need to register your pets microchip to a Queensland company if the pet is new to Queensland.
